Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a "bareboat" charter?

A bareboat charter means you're in charge for the day. Under U.S. Coast Guard rules, the renter (Charterer) takes temporary responsibility for the boat during the trip. That includes your guests, choosing a qualified Captain, and bringing any food or drinks you'd like. The limit is 1 Charterer plus up to 12 guests (13 total), not including crew.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes, the Charterer must be at least 25 years old. Guests of any age are welcome onboard.

How much does a Captain cost?

Captains usually charge $100–$150 per hour, plus a 15–20% tip. You'll pay your Captain directly, as we're not allowed to handle crew payments.

Is there a deposit?

We place a $1,000 security hold at the time of booking. It's released after your trip once everything is checked and in good condition.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 4 days before your trip for a full refund. Late arrivals and no-shows aren't refundable since that time is reserved just for you.

Is there a cleaning fee?

There's no standard cleaning fee. We just ask that you leave the boat in good shape. If it comes back unusually messy, a $200 cleaning fee may apply.

What if the weather isn't great?

Your safety matters most. We'll check conditions on the day of your charter. Severe weather like strong winds, large waves, or storm warnings may require rescheduling. Light rain or passing showers are usually fine. If needed, we'll help you pick a new date.

Can we bring a pet?

Yes, pets are welcome with a $150 fee. Just keep in mind that any damage, like scratches, may result in losing the deposit.

Where are you located?

Diversey Harbor — 2601 Cannon Dr, Chicago, IL 60614.

When should I arrive?

Please plan to arrive about 20 minutes early so you have time to park, check in, and board without feeling rushed.

Is parking available?

Parking can be tricky, especially on busy days, so rideshare is often the easiest option. There is limited street parking nearby and a paid garage at St. Joseph Hospital (2900 N Lake Shore Drive).

How many guests can we bring?

Up to 10 guests. The Captain and crew don't count toward that number.

Are children allowed?

Yes, families are welcome. Children count toward the total guest limit, and anyone 13 or younger must wear a life jacket at all times.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Absolutely. Feel free to bring what you like, including alcohol. We just recommend avoiding items that can stain, like red wine or strongly colored drinks.

Is there a sound system?

Yes, there's a Bluetooth sound system onboard, so you can play your own music.

Are there restrooms onboard?

Yes, all of our boats have a restroom.

What should we bring?

Water, ice, drinks, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, swimwear, towels, and phone chargers are all good to have.

Can we host special events like birthdays or engagements?

Of course. The yacht is a great setting for celebrations, and we can help you plan something special.

Do you allow tie-ups with other boats?

Yes, tie-ups with similar-sized boats are allowed.

Can we cruise on the Chicago River?

At this time, river cruising isn't allowed due to insurance restrictions and potential delays at the locks.

What if a damage is done to the boat?

We will place a hold on your deposit and assess any damage after your trip. If damage is found, the cost of repairs or replacement will be charged accordingly, in line with applicable regulations.
